-An encumbrance against a property for the satisfaction of a debt, either voluntary or involuntary (all liens are encumbrances but not all encumbrances are liens).
-A claim or charge on property for payment of a debt. With a mortgage,
the lender has the right to take the title to your property if you don’t make the mortgage payments.
-An encumbrance against property for money, either voluntary (e.g., mortgage) involuntary
(e.g. judgment) or by operation of law (e.g. property tax lien).
